The Yorkshire Terrier is the world’s most popular small terrier and is part of the Toy Breed. They are usually no more than 7lbs (3.5kg) in weight and 20-23cm (8-9”) in height and because of their size many are kept in flats, however, they do still need plenty of exercise to burn off their energy reservoir. The smallest Yorkshire Terrier ever recorded stood at only 6.3cm high (2.5”) and weighed 113g. The Latin word “Terra” which is where Terrier comes from, means earth, which is exactly where you would find the badgers, rats and foxes that Terriers naturally pursue. Terriers are also a very ancient breed, and can be seen depicted in paintings from many thousands of years ago and have also featured in the earliest of books.
